Written on a board on the side of a building
On Board
Every Gun that is Made
Every Warship launched
Every Rocket fired
Signifies in the final Sense
A Theft from Those
Who hunger and are
not fed, Those who are
Cold, and are not Clothed.
And The world in arms is not
Spending money Alone. It's
spending The Sweat of our
labor, the genius of Our Scientist
And The Hopes of Our Children*
When I posted this, the Iraq war cost ticker was at $454,907,140,705 (that's $450 BILLION!) My state's share is over $12 Billion. We could have built over 114,000 additional units of housing in my state with that money. Nationally we could rebuild New Orleans, provide universal health care AND probably have money left over to fix a few national parks.

Wow! And who thought to write that quote on the side of a building?
I'm with you. Let's have a bake sale, get rid of all the warships and get us some schools and levees!
What I meant to say was, I concur!
Amen, sister! Pissed-off women rule! And might just change the world!
How sad that it's true.
What a phenomenal post!
You rock my world, SMID.
I love that quote! And I love what Flower Child said too! Rise up for schools, levees - and oh yea, health care!
yes, yes and again I say yes
of course, if we weren't having a war we wouldn't be doing those things. No... the rich would just be getting richer, that's all. ack. I am not feeling very optomistic about it all.
Thanks ladies!
And for those of you that know this city we live next to, the building is in a section called Jamaica Plain (leading Flower Girl to say "Of COURSE that would be written on the side of a building in JP!!").
if only moms could rule the world....wouldn't it look like a totally different place?
Yep, that's JP!
I am telling you.. the woman of the world need to unite and kick the men out entirely. There is so much that money could be going for. So sad.
Great post and quote.
And now there's a request for even more money to fund this atrocity.
Alas, kicking out the men won't change much.
