Ain't no sunshine

Over a year ago, I stopped reading one of those big name blogs (I'm sure she misses me) because she had a real air of "isn't my life better than all of yours" which drove me insane. I know I have a very, very good life but still what she wrote - and how she wrote it - just rubbed me.

I desperately do not want this post or the subsequent ones to have that air. What I hope to share with you is that I had Christmas in February with springtime weather as a bonus.

Back at Christmas, Amazing Guy told the kids to hand me a white envelop off of the tree. Inside was a card in which AG explained he had been emailing Jenn in Holland and that my present was a weekend trip to visit her. I started to cry.

"These are tears of joy, right?" he asked nervously.

So in preparing for the trip, I made a mix of songs for my iPod and decided to put it on a CD for Jenn and her family. It included many songs I've written about or listed on birthday CDs.

One song is missing though. I picked Bill Withers' Lovely Day. However, I should've picked Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone because that is what a certain 14-year-old sang while vacumming the first floor.

And he was pretty good.

Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone is the one I will be singing for days babe. I miss you already.
Thanks for a weekend of perfection, including a big thanks for bringing the sun!

oh your trip was a surprice christmas gift! How great! No wonder you started to cry.

Maybe we got such great fantastic spring weather because you were in Europe. You brought the sunshine, that's right! thanks for that!

"ain't no sunshine when she's gone"...ah now it's stuck in my head too. but that's ok, it's a great song.

I neither vacuum nor drive around - but there are certain albums I play when no one is home. Things like The Cure and English Beat where I can thrash my head around like the rock star I wish I were.

Sounds like a great weekend - and Jenn gets a souvenir too!

Ain't No Sunshine is one of my favorite songs of all time. I love the way it was used in the movie Crooklyn. If you haven't seen it, I HIGHLY recommend it.

I know I know I know I know I know

All-f'in'-right! What a GREAT present! (AG didn't mention another envelope for me, did he? Hey, it never hurts to check!) I bet you and Jenn had an absolutely AWESOME time!

And I'm not jealous at all - not one little bit. Really. I'm not. You know I love you both and if y'all are happy ... yeah, OK - jealous just a little. But really happy for you guys, too!

What a wonderful Christmas gift! And you would never seem like you think your life is better than ours! There's nothing wrong with celebrating what you have and being thankful for it. There's a big difference between sharing something wonderful with us and rubbing it in someone's face. You had one amazing trip! I just hope you won't mind that I'd love to live vicariously through you and am hoping you'll share lots of pictures and tidbits just like this.

It was so great seeing you Darlin'! Glad we could spend some time together in the fabulous sunshine. and I too miss you and will be singing this song for a while yet. However, I have my own musical tribute as well (though not as great a techno-blog as others, you can use your imagination I'm sure!)

Hope you had a great trip home and hugs to AG and the kiddos!

What a fantastic Christmas gift--I'm so happy for you (and Jenn). I am hoping you're going to share much more about your time together--all the sights, sounds, and hugs!

Pictures, too, I'm assuming, will be included, eh?

I've got my music up too.

What an AMAZING present. And don't worry, you'll never come off like that other blogger.

Oh, that's a great song. I sing mostly kid songs at bedtime and whatever, though I do like to sing in the car if a good '80's song comes on.

It was so lovely to meet you too... and now i can keep in touch with this whole blog thing?! Soooo exciting. I'm glad you had fun with Jenn she truly is one in a million i don't know what i would do without her!
I know exactly what you mean about people that sound like they think their life is better than yours... very very annoying and you can never put your finger on what it is they say it's just the way they say it.... hummmph
well i hope you are keeping up on your newly aquired wine tasting skills.
keep blogging.... said in a very cheery american chipper tone ;)

Okay, now I'm worried. I frequently post about how good my life is. I hope no one takes that the wrong way.

And your husband, btw? He ROCKS!

"Ain't no sunshine, when she's gone! and she's always gone too long, anytime she goes away!"

Ah... one of my all time favorites.

I am sure that your family feels like that when you go away.
