Sometimes you need to say it out loud

It has taken me a while to figure out that people can't read my mind. This has been a frustrating realization. Like when I turned 30 years old and expected my colleagues at work to acknowledge my birthday. I mean, they had my birthday on various forms so surely they should have known. I had been working there for over 4 years and thought they would do something for me. I was always the one orchestrating everyone else's birthday, wedding, new baby celebration so I thought they would remember my 30th birthday.

I was wrong. And bitter. I alternatively moped and fumed around the office for days until someone figured out my 30th birthday had come and gone and they quickly pulled together a cake and card. Too little too late but I eventually got over it. I worked there another 4 years.

But telepathy is a dying art so I will make this easy for everyone.

My 39th Birthday is this Saturday, December 8th.

Oh dear? What to get me? Well just leave me a comment about your favorite birthday moment - as a kid or adult. And if you've been lurking what better present to give me then coming out of the shadows and saying "Hello"!

And for those of you who have had the benefit of an e-card from me, I've never, ever gotten a Hoops and Yo-yo e-card from anyone. Wouldn't you like to be the first?

Sorry for the deleted comment, there was a typo and it made no sense.

I will be out of town on Sat. without a 'puter (as Michael calls a computer) so I'm wishing you a happy b-day now. I'll be thinking of you.

Happy Birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday, Happy birthday, Happy birthday to YOOOOooooou! (Please hear this sung well and with GREAT ENTHUSIASM!

My birthday is shortly after Christmas--so too often adults would give me "one big present" on Christmas, leaving birthday with nothing to unwrap. My parents understood, though, and tried to give me several smaller things, but all wrapped separately so the pile would look impressive to my young eyes.

Since I had a working mom (RN), every time she was able to be home with me on my birthday, bake the cake herself, and put on the party for me--well, those were special just because she was there!

Hmmmmm...best birthday? Well that would be my 30th at Yankee Stadium followed by Chelsea Piers - and you and AG were there! I remember clearly the moment when everyone had to choose if they were going to bowling, the batting cage, or golf. And AG looked at you like a sad puppy - he so wanted golf. And you came bowling with us. It was great!

and now that I live in the electronic age you are in multiple calendars.

Stating a preference, asking for what I want, tooting my own horn - all things that took me for FREAKIN' EVER to learn how to do without apologizing somehow in the process.

YOU GO GIRL! LOUD and PROUD!

I can't believe I was gone Fri. and Sat.! Again, Happy, Happy day! And b'day moment...

When I turned 10. I was at camp (where I often was on my b'days because I'm smack in the middle of July), and the male counselors came tearing into our cabin, pulled me out of bed, in my pjs, ran me down to the pool (carrying me all the way, which was quite a feat, because the pool was a good half mile from my cabin) and tossed me in, fully clothed. And the water was COLD! They felt I should really EXPERIENCE hitting my first decade.
