During high school I acquired one of those completely cool and necessary pieces of equipment for any music lover.
A turntable with a double cassette player.
This allowed me to make mix tapes from both albums and cassettes. Which led to the creation of my very first mix tape called miscellaneous dance tunes (feb 1986):

This tape has now become a staple in the minivan since The Housemartins CD became permanently lodged into the stereo. This only proves to the kids that I have adored Yaz for well over 20 years and next month's trip to see them in NYC is well-earned.
But little lady's favorite tune from this? Local Boston performer Digney Fignus's Girl with a Curious Hand.
Still have any of those "ancient" cassette tapes? What would we hear if you played it for us? Or are you so young that you have no idea what I am talking about?

I loved my mix tapes. Hmmm. Maybe I should dig them out. There's probably some great tunage there.
Funny you should ask. I am sure my early mix tapes were filled with Seals and Crofts, Carol King, Joan Baez and the like because I am a throw back like that.
But today's post for me is all about an old Seals and Crofts tune which I adored as a young person and has now been newly updated and covered by none other than my current fave: Jason Mraz. Have I mentioned before that I love Mr. Mraz??
Oh, but your mix tape? Sounds just like one my sister would have mixed. Because she was hip like that. I was the hippie.

I have zero mix tapes left. But the very last one I had was one my brother put together for me to help me get past some very dark and bad ju-ju in my life. And it helped.
What fun, SMID! I'll have to dig one up - I still have them. I much prefer the ease of making mix CDs via i-tunes, though.

No mix tapes left, unfortunately. But that turntable with the double cassette player was quite the thing back in the day.
I do carry on the mix tape tradition, though with my iTunes playlists. Although there was nothing quite like having that tape in your hands...
I don't even remember any music from the eighties. All of my children were born during that decade.
Fun stuff, though! That cassette/turntable thing! I LOVED it when those things were invented!
one of my favorite tapes is a mix I made for a college cast party, and I titled it "Moonchildren Mamba Madness" (Moonchildren was the play title) Songs include: ONe way or another, REspect, Son of a Preacher Man, 2 Princes, Time Warp, If Love were a Red Dress, Unbelievable....
