So what is your favorite Judy Blume book?

Really. I want to know.

This month members of my book group are picking their favorite Judy Blume book and reading that. During last month's gathering there was talk of Are you There God? It's Me Margaret and Deena.

My problem is my all-time, favorite book from that particular era of reading (because 2-3 years is so long in the life of a pre-teen it constitutes an era) was From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E. L. Konigsburg. I know I read Judy Blume novels, I just don't really remember them.

Maybe I'll cheat and just read Konigsburg's classic about a brother and sister who run away to the museum and sleep there for the night. Or I could just read Jezebel's weekly discussion of teen literature and claim those memories as my own. But I really can't since someone in my bookgroup is the one who told all of us about the site.

So keep me honest - which Judy Blume book should I read by the end of the month?

Blubber or Freckle Juice.

Enjoy!

I read all of those - so many choices. What was that one about sex? Forever? She covered every topic imaginable. But I would say Freckle Juice is the more humorous of the bunch.

Yay for the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. BEF! Koenigsberg has a couple of newer books out that I've been thinking of reading, too.

I remember laughing the hardest at Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing in, like 3rd grade, but Are You There God, It's Me Margaret was the essential girl-becomes-woman book.

Deenie, Tiger Eyes... sad and memorable.

OK - books. I can only claim to have read Freckle Juice and The One in the Middle is the Green Kangaroo - and remember loving them.

As for Konigsburg, if you haven't read The View from Saturday, please make time to read it. I may even have a copy I can send you. Like the kids from Spellbound, I was one of these kids. Ah, books...

Enjoy! Love you! K

My favorite Judy Blume book was Superfudge. I loved it!

Have you read Wifey? It's the first Judy Blume book I read that wasn't for kids. It's definitely worth the read.

Blubber .... I remember reading these books! I was already showing signs of being well endowed and prayed that I must I must increase my breasts would work the opposite way. It didn't work.

Wow, was there a Ramona book I didn't love? I'd say pick any one of them. better yet, start at the beginning and work your way through the Quimby family story.

I read "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" over and over and over. It's the first of the Fudge series. I'm getting nostalgic just thinking about it!

OMG! Mixed Up Files trumps all Judy Blume books, but Fourth Grade Nothing was pretty awesome too.

Okay, so this is kind of scary... first Room with a View.

And guess what my all-time fave from that time was, too?

I even ran away to the Met.

And I'm too old for Judy Blume. ;-(

You can't forgot about Forever! That was her controversial book. Actually I did think her book had a really good message about after you've had sex, you can't really go back to just holding hands.

Gosh. I can't help you with that. I don't believe I'd know a Judy Blume book if you hit me in the face with it!

But I think you'll get it all figured out with a little help from your friends here. :)

Freckle Juice was fun. I enjoyed Tiger Eyes too, back in the day when I was an angst-ridden pre-teen. I'd have never let my mother know what I was reading, though. She wouldn't have approved!

I LOVED The Mixed-Up Files much more than Judy Blume, but I do recall that Superfudge was quite funny. And Starring Sally J. Freedman As Herself was pretty good.
